چکیده

Practicing physical modeling leads to reconsider the relationship with the musical computer, at a conceptual and practical level. This calls for specific learning tools, which fully take into account the specificities of this activity and go further than the traditional concepts of libraries of models and tutorials used in computer music environments. This paper presents a framework, called the Instrumentarium, which addresses this issue in the context of the CORDIS-ANIMA physical modeling system. The Instrumentarium represents in a structured and general way the possibilities offered by the system, by specifying the concepts that define the internal organization of the models. We introduce a functional analysis of CORDISANIMA networks, which is based on the study of several hundreds of existing models. It may be extended to provide a general ontology of models built with other modeling systems.

Theory and Practice of Physical Modeling for Musical Sound Transformations: An Instrumental Approach to Digital Audio Effects Based on the CORDIS-ANIMA System

This thesis proposes the use of CORDIS-ANIMA physical modeling formalism as a mean of designing musical sound transformations under the concept of instrumental interaction. It provides new results and new discussions in musical signal processing and in the design of digital audio effects. The aim is to investigate the possibilities of physical modeling to provide more “plausible” sound modifica...

Self-sustained Vibrating Structures Physical Modelling by Means of Mass- Interaction Networks

GENESIS is a sound synthesis and musical creation environment based on the mass-interaction CORDIS-ANIMA physical modelling formalism. It has got the noteworthy property that it allows to work both on sound itself and on musical composition in a single coherent environment. In this paper we present the first results of a study that is carried out with GENESIS on a particular type of models: sel...

Using the cordis-Anima Formalism for the Physical Modeling of the Greek zournas Shawm

We propose a numerical simulation for the physical model of the zournas, a Greek traditional double-reed woodwind musical instrument, following the massinteraction CORDIS-ANIMA formalism. The functional components of the instrument are implemented using original CORDIS-ANIMA modules, while special attention has been given to the flow characteristics of the reed.
